DESCRIPTION:The 4th Annual Tour de Yadkin is a 165-mile paddling adventure on North Carolina’s second largest river basin. For three weeks from June 9 to 29, 2013, hundreds of paddlers in canoes and kayaks will take to the water from the highlands of Wilkes County to the Uwharrie Mountains of south central North Carolina to experience the simple beauty of this national treasure. Paddlers will learn about the rich cultural and natural heritage the Yadkin River Valley has to offer while enjoying a summer day on one of the most beautiful rivers in NC, centrally located in Piedmont NC. Paddlers can join the Tour for a few hours or multiple days. Along the way are unique experiences that make the month of June a fun time for the whole family on the river.

DESCRIPTION:The Annual Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival held in Historic Downtown Elkin. The festival brings more than 15,000 visitors to downtown Elkin to enjoy live entertainment, shopping, great food and gigantic pumpkins galore.    The festivities begin Saturday morning with the 6th Annual Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off on Main Street near the Elkin Tribune office. There will be pumpkins from growers located all over the East Coast. Some will weigh-in at an excess of 1,000 lbs with hopes of placing in the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth top ten.    The Main Street of Elkin will be lined with vendors of every description featuring everything from funnel cakes to functional pottery, canned green beans to gourmet coffees, wood furnishings to wine racks, BBQ to baked goods, sand art, pumpkin butter to polish sausages, plus a variety of live entertainment and the ever-popular pie-eating contest.
